Why 938 church?

"938" refers to Matthew 9:35-38 which describes Jesus’ vision for the church in the world.

The people around Jesus were in need, hurting and lost. He looked around at them, and Matthew says he had “compassion” on them. He saw where they were, and knew he had what they needed. Jesus sees you and the real problems you face each day.

Jesus, being God, could have simply snapped his fingers and fixed every person's problems. But he didn’t just want everyone’s problems to be fixed, he wanted people to know they are loved!  How does he do this? Through his people: the church.  He took his disciples and taught them to pray – for a church that would show people the true answers to the very real problems that they were facing then (and that we are facing now).

That answer? Build community, strengthen faith, and extend compassion. This is the heart of Jesus for his people, and for you! This is how we find our way back to God.

Our Values

we build COMMUNITY

When we think of life’s most meaningful moments, we consider who we were with, not simply what occurred. Friendship is the X-factor that makes the moments in life matter. Wherever we go, we want to bring people together and kindle the kind of community that brings meaning to our moments.

we strengthen FAITH

Much of life is outside of our control. There are so many things to chase, and so many things to do. Faith gives clarity to what matters most. Faith doesn’t always show us Jesus’ master plan, but it can help us take next steps. So we strengthen one another’s faith, we look to God, and we take our next steps together.

we extend COMPASSION

We live in a broken world. Our story starts with us experiencing God’s compassion. We believe that God loves, and we need to remind each other that God loves us. We extend compassion to one another and to everyone around us. Jesus doesn’t want the church to fix the world, or to rule the world, but rather, to love the world.
